hello sailor is a party and record label based in brooklyn, ny founded by brazilian-born, new york based renata do valle. since 2012, the label has been staging events with an array of local and international artists. following the killer first release ( muko wapi ), featuring the joakim rework was never going to be easy, but luckily sao paolo dj duo selvagem step up ! acclaimed releases on the beats in space x label and universal cave have established them as a force to be reckoned with in the esoteric edits game. le freak is a cumbia style rendition of the chic classic, driven by insane synths and sampled drum loops, punctuated with low-pitched vocals in portuguese. tamanqueiro could be one of the greatest hits by jorge ben, if it wasn t written by elizio de buzios. that s his only release ever and now is a holy grail of brazilian funk, fetching small fortunes when found. here it appears in an extended and dj-friendly version.

u2xproductions presents, i m yours written by niko marks and featured artist, sadiqua. niko expresses true detroit deepness while allowing room for a sultry female vocal to carry a bit of melody throughout each mix. a1 starts off low tempo and very dance friendly while b1 delivers a very funky baseline and leans to a more aggressive beat. b2 gets really deep and plays down to a minimal pulse. this release is a definite dj record with smooth and rich grooves that will make a great fit into your playlists!

dave clarkes protege rocks it big time with his crushing debut on the public stand.

a black, very black, vinyl record which stands out compared to previous releases on limited. the sixth chapter of andrea belluzzi’s label is titled black series because its objective is to devastate the ordinary lines of techno and let loose the dark black wings which are the base of the project. on side a, mike storm and transientx4 lead us through a gradual scale of mysterious and mechanical loops capable of hypnotizing while increasing the level of pathos. this culminates the gradual build up to the third track, produced by andrea belluzzi, with a perfect balance between dark techno and ambient in a mental voyage which seems to never lose itself during the entire 7 minutes with the perfect energy for the dancefloor. the record ends with the work of ken karter which, although is strictly mental and super hypnotic, manages to offer a distinct danceable rhythm marked by low frequencies which remain slow but captivating with a wide array of sounds which grow without boring the listener.

brack, the new imprint from uk-born berlin-based producer bnjmn, is back in quick succession with another strong transmission from the label boss. after plunging into dirtier, darker sonic waters on the pitchfork-tipped brack001, chromed continues the descent. while the propulsive rhythms and skilfully stacked samples remain intact, these 4 tracks are imbued with subtler elements that become more apparent with repeated listens. drums don’t just bang, they scrape, stab and shudder, and the typically mesmeric synth-lines are swathed in analogue hiss and seething low-end. idiosyncratic aural details have always been a specialty of the young producer, but here they rise to the fore. the rapidly flourishing sound world that is brack comes more into focus, and it appears it is even more intricate and musically rich than on first glance.

polish resident lutto lento follows up his debut 12inch for charles drakefords ftd label with this 6 track ep whips for where to now? records. luttos sound places him as quite a unique figure in modern electronic music, showing a fearless work ethic in shrouding his productions in saturated tape loops, and achieving what is certainly a low-fi quality to his sound, lutto manages to never let this lo-fi edge take centre stage, instead this expertly crafted process of tape cutting and looping provides the backdrop to luttos exuberantly crafted yet absolutely dance floor orientated drum work.

waehlscheibe is back: the swiss label keeps on doing what it does best and releases another truly deep and dubby house record. this time its japanese artist takuya morita known for his releases on morris / audio and adjunct who pleases with soft pads and chords, rich delays and ultra low basses. all four tracks on this record are strictly instrumental and oscillate nicely between deep house and techno. moreover, they cover a wide range of moods suitable for playing at various times of the night. the >placid sunset ep< comes with a special 2nd version of the title track which has been reconstructed and stripped down by s&ro and alessandro crimi from waehlscheibe. as always all tracks have been mastered by above smoke at the hole of dub studio.

for the past few years, young denmark vessey has been releasing a series of albums, both as a leader of carious groups and as a sideman in various others, which definitely mark him as one of the most exciting young players in music. vessey’s last album prior to this (2013’s cult classic) employed scud one for the rhythm section. vessey, in his own playing suggest that he may be forging a link between the new mainstream and prior innovations. it is to vessey’s credit that this album achieves a surprising degree of unity. there is little of the haphazard feeling that too often arrends blowing sessions by pick-up bands. it would be easier to mistake this for a group which works regularly. part of that is simply because vessey is a part of the new mainstream, the part that is seeking beyond the accepted common language to find ways of extending it. the rest is because of vessey’s unusual talent.

after several acclaimed eps on some of europe s greatest labels, such as local talk, faces, mile high and his own rawthenticity, it s now on the hong kongs most prominent label fragrant harbour that fulbert has decided to land with a truly raw piece of house music. meticulously sampled and arranged with the help of analog gears, days of being wild got this very special saturated low-fi sound, very characteristic of one of the most promising talent to have emerged onto the french electronic scene in recent times.

stephane lefrancois & jameson gilvarry team up for the latest 12inch from the secret music label and find inspiration from a canine icon of space travel. laika is named in honour of the first cosmonaut dog, depicted here on the cover art and lefrancois and gilvarry convey her journey through an uplifting, rolling techno cut that doesn t seem to stop building. complementing the original is a remix from dantiez saunderson who strips down the groove, while giving it a swung, offbeat feel. staying true to the original, this version also introduces another layer of melodic synths, extending the journey, making it deeper and moody. the booming, clean low end and bouncy high end keep the groove propelling forward.

shadeleaf continues, with a strident 7 out of 7 on the scoreboard! following a stunning (and sell-out !) ep earlier last year, the north easts answer to michigans finest, steps up again, with probably his strongest work to date. mannmademusic became known very quickly, over the space of a few low key, but expertly realised edits releases for the likes of glenview, lumberjacks in hell & diner city sounds. this ep sees him continue wearing his influences proudly, but re-imagine them in an altogether rawer framework - samples woven together, augmented and redefined, some of it following the classic kdj blueprint but laid out in a style thats all his own. those familiar loops submerged and unfurling, rubbing up against altogether more off-kilter but coherent workouts, sat alongside perfectly measured electronic jams all combining into an ep that stands head and shoulders above the competition. another shadeleaf sureshot!

closely following his highly acclaimed debut pôle ep released in fall 2013, gaspard de la montagne returns this spring with a second ep. this new stallion ep features two curiously optimistic-yet-hesitant sculptures of techno hybrids that wade near the deep end are driven by well-endowed low-end and contemplative melodies. from a genuinely open-minded generation with incredibly eclectic taste, gaspard de la montagne brings you the best of it all as a mess of inspiring further cross-pollination. a must-have!

the original he serves up here is my groove, a firmly rooted and solid bit of house music with classically inclined vocal chants by gjeazon from crazy like a fox records, that recall eddie amador s biggest cut. subtle details embellish the groove and make it all the more standout, and those deep looping basslines really pull you into the middle of the track, which also has airy hi hats and a sleazy sense of funk. the first remix comes from afterparty founder, rinse fm radio host, former usher tour dj, southern fried affiliate and pioneer collaborator doorly, who also runs his own pigeon hole label. his remix smooths out the kinks and simmers a grainy groove for seven shuffling, seductive minutes. rolling effects and a big breakdown are sure to make for some fist pumping moments in the club. last to remix is play it down producer and foremost danish dj christian nielsen. he does so with an increased sense of urgency and his track hits that bit harder as a result, all thanks to a dirty down low bassline that just rolls and rolls.

jaumet is back, but not alone: he asked 3 artists to revise music from his latest album la visite. on the a-side, we have a brand new band from düsseldorf, called die wilde jagd. we know those boys from their previous band der räuber und der prinz, released on desolat, which is a favorite from everyone at versatile. they deliver a surprising mix of la visite, in pure kraut fashion. neu is not that far... on the flip-side, the frenchman low jack turns la visite into a dub marshland, multilayered as is typical for low jack s music. and finally, gilb r delivers his own ambient version of one of the highlights of jaumet s album, midnight man, a tribute to i:cube who used to come to the studio at night.

mittlerweile ist es bereits sechs jahre her, dass nosaj thing (auch bekannt als produzent jason chung) das erste mal im dunstkreis der low-end-theory produzenten garde aus los angeles aufgetaucht ist. nach dem futuristischen debüt *drift* und dem ersten album für innovative leisure, *home* (2013), erscheint mit *fated* nun ein album, bei dem der sound zeit hatte zu reifen. indem er alles hat wegfallen lassen, was er nicht als wichtig erachtete, hat chung einen sound mit bemerkenswerter direktheit und emotionalem potenzial geschaffen. dennoch: passend für einen künstler, der bereits charlotte gainsbourg und the xx geremixt, mit toro y moi und kendrick lamar zusammengearbeitet hat und mit james blake auf tour gegangen ist, lässt sich nosaj thing nicht so einfach einordnen. es ist nicht ganz klar, was *fated* ist: mal idm, hip hop, ambient und dann wiederum pop. was aber klar ist: wie weit nosaj thing bereits gekommen ist ...

back at it again, taking the true essence of the “jacking” sound of chicago house and putting it’s own stamp on it is what obsolete music technology has done with their new 12&#8243,, entitled, “volatile.” warbling, wobbling, distorting, sinisterly acidic basslines abound is the best way to describe this release! for dance floors only! you have been warned! “volatile” starts off with some 707 drums intro and then fading in, is this tripped out, bubbling bass sound that sends you off a cliff! just when you think that’s all to the track, dark, melancholic pads comes in for added atmos-fear! rounding out the a-side is “killin,” with it’s 2 acid style basslines, one sounding at a high octave and the other at a lower octave. riffs playing separately sounding great, but when played together, there is something slightly, mentally off. on the b-side, “broken siren” is high energy! 808 tom drums bringing the funky low end while a short, electronic piano lick drenched in warm, fuzzy, flange effect. setting it off is a decayed sine wave, mimicking an actual alarm sound. lastly, “electric current” best describe this distorted acid bassline and its tweaking filter and resonance controls over jacking 808 drums
